Cooling Solutions

First Option is Repair

Our experience is to evaluate the condition of your HVAC system from top to bottom to ensure the issue is fixed completely, not just masked. We look for the opportunity to repair a system which otherwise would still be efficient if not for one non-working part.

Many AC systems today have a long lifespan, reaching up to 20 years. Whereas older models can last between 10 and 12 years, if routine maintenance was completed. The lifespan and efficiency of your AC system all comes down to the normal wear the system experiences.

When Should You Replace Your AC Unit?

Air cooling systems can be a major investment, and there will come a time when your current system will need to be replaced. Things to consider:

  • Your current unit is more than 10 years old - If your AC unit is over 10 years old, it may be time to look into replacing your unit with a newer one. As an AC unit nears the end of it's lifespan it becomes less efficient as well as frequently break down.
  • Your current unit breaks down frequently - Is your AC unit frequently breaking down? Are you quickly becoming close friends with the AC repairman? If this is the case, it may be time to replace your air conditioning unit and save money by not constantly fixing your old AC unit.
  • Your energy bills have started to skyrocket - If your energy bills seem to be increasing month over month, it may be that your AC unit is nearing the end of it's lifespan. As your unit becomes older, it becomes less efficient and may need to work twice as hard in order to provide the same amount of cool air in your home. When your AC works twice as hard, it also uses twice the amount of energy to do so. Contact us today for our expert Grand Rapids AC installation services.

When Professional Services Help

At DLO Mechanical, we offer repair, installation and maintenance services to ensure that your home’s heating system is operating at maximum efficiency.

  • When Your Furnace Leaks - Some high efficiency furnaces are prone to produce condensation, if this is the case, your problem may be minor. Older and less efficient furnaces should produce no condensation, so a water leak may indicate the need to replace your flue pipe. Your unit may be experiencing a clogged condensation tube if it is producing more condensation than normal. Worst case scenario would be an expensive repair that could require you to replace your furnace system, like the case with a broken secondary heat exchanger.
  • When Your Energy Bills Get Higher - If your energy bill suddenly increases, compare the past years weather to your utility rates. If these items have remained relatively constant, you may want to blame your furnace.  Older furnaces are notoriously inefficient, especially when compared with the newest models. Are you finding yourself calling your furnace repair professional more than once a year?
  • When There’s a Drop in Air Quality - If your home's air is beginning to feel dustier or the air quality seems to be deteriorating, this can indicate your furnace is not helping to stabilize the air quality, as it should. In some cases, you may need a humidifier in the dry winter months if you’re addressing allergy or asthma problems. However, checking into your furnace is another avenue to take as well.
  • When You Notice Unusual Behavior - Grinding, squeaking, banging noises, and even unusual smells are all signs of something wrong. Being aware of the typical sounds, looks, and smells of your furnace, can keep you clued in more quickly if something isn’t quite right.

Caution: The smell of rotten eggs can indicate a dangerous natural gas leak and should be reported immediately, after you’ve turned off your furnace, for your and your family’s safety.  When safely outside, call 9-1-1 first, then call your gas company.
